Back in the Good old Days

I've had another friend post something that I want to comment on. She talks about watching kiddie shows with her kids. Which I think Moms should do so you can talk about things and understand what games and role-playing they are do later. When Chicka was little I watched a bunch of shows with her. My favorite to watch was Sesame Street. It would have all sorts of different art medians in it and Pixer had some little shorts on there too (this was way before Toy Story). The best part was they would have several adult jokes. Now I'm not talking "nasty adult jokes" that the media has gone haywire with but I mean jokes that only an adult would get because they were old. Like when Monster Piece Theatre did Gone with the Wind, it obviously was a take off of Master Piece Theatre, but also my favorite movie. Chicka liked it when all the Muppets and parts of the set were blown away by the wind. What I loved about it was the references to the movie the Muppets made. Or when they had REM on singing Happy Furry Monsters with a Muppet who looks like the girl from B52's who sang this with them. Again Chicka liked it because of the monsters and could have cared less about REM. Just opposite of me. But lately when I've seen Sesame Street it was so high tech that it lost a lot of its charm at least for me.

Anyway theres my two bits on whats wrong with the the world.

So Far So Good

Hubby has been gone for less then a day but we are doing great! I had a small moment (okay it was closer to three hours of gaming time but that's it) where I wallowed a little but I'm back on top and still feeling great. I go walking again tomorrow morning and that seems to help my day. My problem with walking is that I have a negative attitude about that as well. I'm glad I go walking everyday and look forward to it but I complain the whole walk. I need to work on this otherwise my walking buddies might dump me. Man I need to work on having a positive attitude with hubby and with walking. Hopefully I can do both. If not I'm sure you'll hear about it.

Good Luck with your trials! Remember that they are blessings.

Comic love

Myfriend wrote a blog about the glory days of comics and how much he misses Calvin and Hobbes. I feel his pain as does my hubby. We both LOVED Calvin and Hobbes and are consoled somewhat by our kids who love to read our Calvin and Hobbes books. All they have to do is mention a part of the comic and Hubby and I already know what they are talking about. In fact in Jr. High I cover my books and folders with my favorite comics that I have copied out of my books. It gave me something to do besides listen to the teacher or do my homework. (No wonder I failed).

But Hubby and I also take comfort in the great comics that are in the paper today. In fact the only reason I get the paper is so I can read the comics. I still ending reading almost the entire paper (outside of my comic section I love to read the business section) so I feel our money isn't going to waste. Several times when I've been upset with my paper and I wanted to cancel then only thing that stops me is that I wouldn't get my daily fix of funnies.

So here is a list (and link if I'm lucky enough) of my favorite comics:

Baby Blues
Pickles
Shermans Lagoon
Retail
Argyle Sweater
Lio
Cul De Sac This one has some horrible artwork but it's still really funny.

Choices

I've been getting kind of mopey lately. I haven't really wanted to do much and I struggled getting dinner on the table. Which for me is a big thing because I love making dinner because it signifies the ending of another day. But this week hasn't been my best week. I've done some good things this week like clean my basement and several loads of laundry, but I haven't been up to my full potential and I couldn't figure out why until five minutes before I began posting. My problem is Hubby is leaving me for six full days. I don't like that idea. I married the man so I could spend the rest of my life WITH HIM. Not spending the rest of my life watching him go places without me. I knew that in the beginning that my hubby was likely to travel a lot but I really didn't believe that part. I convincingly stored that in the back of my mind and said his travels should start happening around 40. Well that hasn't work out well has it?

Anyway back to the point, if I'm going to survive this coming week with my sanity, house, and family in good working order I better plan ahead and decided to not be so mopey. I have two choices: One my husband can leave and I will fall apart and let the kids run wild and let the house fall completely apart OR My husband can leave and I will keep my wits about me and the kids engaged and a menu set in place that doesn't pizza. Notice that hubby staying put is not an option. I must remember that and buck up.

So if you have any ideas for activities or meal options (no fast food please) I am ALL ears because I need all the help I can get to make it through next week.

Swiss Cheese Memory

Last night as I was updating my blog I realized that I was missing a movie I had watched. I knew that I had watch a movie before Shanghai Nights but I couldn't remember which one. I knew which section of the Video store it came from but not the title of the show or remembered what the cover art looked like. I knew it had really cool flashbacks that I hoped they would use in the Twilight movie but I couldn't remember what the flashbacks were about. And then it dawned on me The Count of Monte Cristo after that I was happy and could go to sleep. Yes was really thinking about what movie I had watched the whole night as I was getting ready for bed. Now you know how lame I can be. Anyway in case anyone was wondering the movie list is in order of viewing since the listed date. I know it's sad looking, but before I started the list I had seen Iron Man twice. That was a GREAT movie. Hubby's favorite.

Happy Happy Joy Joy

So back to life as normal. Only not so much because my walking buddy will be camping this week, then my hubby goes camping the next week then we have a week off before I go camping with the kids. Oh Joy. I must admit that I look at camping through my father's eyes. Not very kindly. I mean why walk away (literally) from a perfectly good bed and home for that matter only to go sleep on a hard ground outside with the bugs. I enjoy being outside but I love sleeping in my own bed with my fan running all night drowning out the noise of the world. So why would I go someplace that gives me NONE of the comforts of home where I will be able to hear every little creepy thing that passes by my tent in the night. Ick I am not looking forward to this. But the kids are excited and hubby is excited (must be a genetic disorder from his side) so I will go and be happy about the whole experience. We can have fun just like the Cleavers. Come to think of it, did June ever go camping?

The Silent Me

Hubby has the week off and since my priorities lie with him and not this blog. Sorry but thats the way the cookie crumbles. Which by the way is less fattening for two reasons:
One the cookie is not as dense and you tend to eat less because you can't get all the crumbs.
Two all the calories fall out when you crumble it.
